Major Melvin Whittenburg (US Army, retired) served 20 years in the US Army as a Quartermaster Branch Petroleum Logistics Officer and served under the  Department of the Army’s Chief of Staff’ (Pentagon) as the Army’s Benchmarking /Best Practice Officer.

In March 2001, Melvin left the Army with 17 years of service to join ExxonMobil, but was called back to Active Duty on 13 Sep 01 to use his Middle East fuel expertise in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWoT) .  During this period, Melvin served as the  Defense Logistics Agency-Energy (DLA-Energy) Project Manager for Fuel Distribution Planning (GWoT).  Other prior military assignments include:
